Content Licensing Policy
Maus-Tec LLC, doing business as Maus-Tec Electronics
Overview
This policy governs the licensing of digital content sold through Maus-Tec platform services, including Maus-Hub and any future marketplace services. It describes the rights of content buyers, content creators, and Maus-Tec as the platform operator.
This policy applies to all digital content distributed through Maus-Tec platform services — both free and paid — including but not limited to: audio packs, plugins, firmware extensions, and configuration presets.
Where terms differ between free and paid content, those differences are noted.
1. What You Receive
When you purchase or download content through a Maus-Tec platform service, you receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use that content with your Maus-Tec devices. You do not receive ownership of the content itself, regardless of whether the content is free or paid.
2. Buyer Rights
The restrictions in this section exist to protect the creators who produce content for the Maus-Hub marketplace. Creators entrust us with their work, and these terms ensure their intellectual property, livelihood, and creative control are respected.
2.1 What You May Do
- Use purchased content on your registered Maus-Tec devices
- Re-download purchased content at any time while your account is active and the content remains available
- Register purchased content on multiple personal devices, subject to the per-purchase device limit (see §4)
- Continue using content already installed on your devices, even if the content is later removed from the marketplace
2.2 What You May Not Do
- Redistribute, resell, or share purchased content with others
- Extract, reverse-engineer, or modify the license key or copy protection mechanisms
- Use purchased content on devices not registered to your account
- Upload purchased content to any other platform or file-sharing service
2.3 Lifetime Access Commitment
Maus-Tec is committed to ensuring that content you purchase remains usable for the lifetime of your device, regardless of what happens to the marketplace, the creator’s account, or Maus-Tec itself.
See §7 (Continuity Guarantee) for details.
3. Creator Rights
3.1 Ownership
Creators retain full copyright ownership of all content they upload. By listing content on a Maus-Tec marketplace, creators grant Maus-Tec a limited license as described in the Creator Agreement.
3.2 Revenue Share
Creators receive a share of each sale, minus payment processing fees. The current revenue share and fee structure are published in the Creator Agreement.
3.3 Voluntary Delisting
Creators may delist their content at any time. Delisting removes the content from search results and prevents new purchases. Existing purchasers retain their license and download access to delisted content.
If a creator’s account is terminated voluntarily, existing licenses remain valid. See §7.
3.4 Forced Removal by Maus-Tec
If Maus-Tec removes content (as opposed to a creator voluntarily delisting), the effect on existing licenses depends on the reason for removal:
- Legal compliance (court order, law enforcement request, content involving minors, or other illegal content): All licenses are revoked. Content is removed from the marketplace and is no longer available for download. Maus-Tec will make reasonable efforts to issue refunds to affected purchasers. Maus-Tec may be required to report the content to authorities.
- Copyright infringement (valid DMCA takedown): Licenses are suspended pending resolution. If the takedown is upheld, licenses are revoked and refunds may be issued. If a counter-notice is successful, licenses are restored.
- Policy violation (content standards or Terms of Service violation): Licenses are revoked. Content is removed from the marketplace. Refunds may be issued at Maus-Tec’s discretion based on the nature and severity of the violation.
Maus-Tec will not continue to host or distribute content that has been determined to violate our policies or applicable law, regardless of existing purchase licenses.
4. Device Licensing
4.1 How It Works
Purchased content is licensed to specific devices registered to your account. When you download content to a device, a license key is generated that is bound to that device’s unique identifier.
4.2 Device Limits
Each purchase entitles you to install the content on a reasonable number of personal devices. The specific device limit is displayed on each content listing before purchase. The default limit is 3 devices per purchase unless otherwise stated.
4.3 Device Replacement
If you replace a device (hardware failure, upgrade, etc.), you may deregister the old device and register the new one through your account settings. Your existing content licenses transfer to the new device.
If the old device is no longer accessible (lost, stolen, or broken), you can still deregister it from your account — no action is needed on the device itself.
5. Content Protection
5.1 Approach
Maus-Tec uses a lightweight device-binding system to prevent casual redistribution of paid content. Content files are encrypted with a key derived from your device’s unique identifier and your purchase record.
5.2 What This Means in Practice
- Content plays normally on your registered devices
- Content files copied to an unregistered device will not function
- No internet connection is required to use content after initial download and activation
- No “phone home” or periodic license checks occur during normal use
5.3 What We Will NOT Do
- We will not use aggressive DRM that degrades the user experience
- We will not remotely disable content that has been legitimately purchased
- We will not require an always-on internet connection to use purchased content
- We will not brick devices or disable functionality as a copy protection measure
6. Refunds
6.1 Refund Eligibility
Because digital content can be copied after download, refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis.
Refunds are generally available for:
- Content that does not work as described
- Content that is materially different from its listing
- Technical issues that prevent download or playback
- Duplicate purchases (same content bought twice)
- Content removed by Maus-Tec for legal or policy reasons (see §3.4)
Refunds are generally not available for:
- Change of mind after download
- Content voluntarily delisted by the creator (you retain access)
6.2 How to Request a Refund
Contact us at info@maustec.io with your order details and a description of the issue. We aim to respond within 2 business days.
7. Continuity Guarantee (Dead-Man’s-Switch)
7.1 Our Commitment
We believe that if you paid for content, you should be able to use it forever — regardless of what happens to Maus-Tec, the marketplace, or the creator’s account.
7.2 What Happens If a Creator Leaves
If a creator delists content or closes their account:
- Your license remains valid
- You may continue to download the content
- Content already on your device continues to work normally
- No action is required on your part
7.3 What Happens If Maus-Tec Discontinues a Service
If Maus-Tec discontinues a marketplace service:
- 180-day notice period — We will provide at least 180 days advance notice before shutting down any service that hosts paid content
- Download window — During the notice period, you may download all purchased content to your devices
- License key removal — Before shutdown, we will release unlocked versions of all purchased content (without device-binding) so your content remains usable without the marketplace infrastructure
- Open-source commitment — If the service is discontinued, we will release the license verification code under an open-source license so the community can maintain compatibility
7.4 What Happens If Maus-Tec Ceases Operations
If Maus-Tec LLC ceases operations entirely:
- The same commitments in §7.3 apply
- If orderly shutdown is possible, we will execute the 180-day process
- If orderly shutdown is not possible (e.g., sudden bankruptcy), the open-source firmware will continue to function with any content already installed on your devices
- Device firmware does not depend on Maus-Tec servers to operate
8. Intellectual Property
8.1 Creator Content
Creators retain copyright ownership of their content. Maus-Tec’s license to host and distribute content is described in the Creator Agreement.
8.2 DMCA and Takedown
If you believe content on our marketplace infringes your copyright, you may submit a DMCA takedown request as described in the Creator Agreement §7. You may also contact info@maus-tec.com directly with your takedown request.
8.3 AI-Generated Content
All voice audio content distributed on Maus-Tec marketplaces must be performed by real human beings. AI-generated, AI-synthesized, or AI-cloned voice content is prohibited. The Creator Agreement §3 details our content standards and how compliance is verified.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in our services or legal requirements. Changes that materially reduce buyer or creator rights will be communicated at least 30 days in advance through the platform and via email to affected users.
Changes will not retroactively reduce the rights attached to content already purchased.
